Tempting Fate

For those of you that know me know that I am very superstitious when it comes to sports and of all the sports I watch, baseball is when I am most superstitious.   Here are my official baseball superstitions and call me crazy but you know what?   "it's only stupid if it doesn't work"

  1. I don't attend Giants game because as of right now i am 0-9 when watching the Giants at AT&T park.  Had I also bought a ticket for myself to Game 1 things would have played out differently so instead I dropped off my parents at the game and watched the game from a bar in SF instead of inside AT&T park and gladly accepted my role.
  2. I cannot start a game from the beginning.  I have to enter the game after the first pitch has been thrown and usually start in the 3rd inning and from there the Giants are either in their groove, up or down 1 or 2 runs, but still in the game to win it all.
  3. My Giants jacket has brought me good luck since i bought it.
  4. The giants wrist band I received during my birthday has also brought me good luck when watching on TV.
  5. I haven't cut my hair since the beginning of the post-season and kept growing it out until the final out of the world series.
  6. In Game 1 while sitting in a bar watching the game, I drank Guinness and witnessed the greatest game ever by taking down Justin Verlnader and Pablo Sandoval's historic 3 Home Run game.  Gotta keep that streak going.

And if you think i'm truly crazy watch this commercial and tell me you don't think about it too when your team is playing;

And so this post is about tempting fate for Game 4.  In Game 1, I didn't attend the game and by the time we got to the bar it was already the top of the 2nd inning.  In Game 2, I started the game half an inning in at the bottom of the 1st and Madison Bumgarner pitched a Gem.   In Game 3, I started the game at the 2nd inning and Vogey took down the tigers in detroit.

So the giants were up 3-0 and last night was going to be the game-clinching series.  and so i tempted fate by foregoing one ritual and I began watching the game from the beginning with my parents.   I had my guinness, I had my wrist band, and I had my jacket so I thought, I could let go of one right???

......

If anyone watched Game 4 it was absolutely TORTURE.  As soon as I saw the national anthem I immediately regretted it and thought maybe I could cut out and join the game later but I already knew it was over so I watched the game from the beginning.  In the 2nd inning the giants scored first but left a few men stranded at the bases.  A one run lead was short lived cuz a few innings later the Triple Crown winner smacked a 2 run home run out of the park and my heart sank.  was this my superstition coming back to bite me?  until Buster Posey hit a 2 run home run that was more impressive and the giants retook the lead.  and I thought to myself "please PLEASE hold this lead"   well that didn't last long.  Delmon Young smacked a solo shot and the game was tied the rest of the way.  Through 9 innings and nailbiting situations the game went through the standard 9 innnings tied in the World Series and i REALLY regretted watching from the beginning.  And then in the 10th inning the most amazing plays happened and Sergio Romo strikes out the Triple Crown winner looking and boy-o-boy did i tempt fate.  Breaking one of my cardinal rules and it took 10 innings in a torturous situation.

but the giants prevailed.  and hopefully next season I can slowly start removing my superstitions and be able to attend games and finally witness my first Giants win at AT&T park.
