My Silver Linings...

Over the weekend I went on a cabin trip up to tahoe to pretty much just "get away" from everything here in the real world.

What did i do while i was up there?  pretty much nothing.... but nothing when you're on vacation is vastly different then doing nothing at home.... at home when i do nothing, i feel guilty.  there is always something i could be doing.   cleaning up, fixing this, log in to work for a bit, go run some errands outside of the house.... just something, anything other than nothing should usually be done.

but when you're on vacation?  nothing as boring as it may seem is actually very refreshing.  knowing that you can't do any of those other tasks cuz you're far away from those obligations   maybe the only thing i regret from the weekend is not being able to bring Ella with me.  doing nothing with Ella is always a rewarding feeling.

Anyhow, so i changed the look of my blog and my blog title; why?  well it all started with watching one of the many movies i watched over the weekend.

The Silver Linings Playbook

I won't lie, i had no idea what to expect about in this movie.  I thought from the trailers that this was a total jock movie about a football fanatic and a rom-com by meeting a girl.  I was thinking/expecting a movie like Fever Pitch with Jimmy Fallon and Drew Barrymore but in a football version.   To my much surprise this movie had way more deep plotlines and football was just a sideshow to it all.  It's a story about a man who's hit rock bottom by finding out that his wife cheated on him by literally witnessing the two of them together (hrmm.... is it all coming to light why i like this movie???)  anyhow, the guy hit's rock bottom and pretty much goes over the edge mentally and the story is about how he tries to turn his life back around and runs into a girl also going through mental issues from her marriage.  The acting between the two, the dialogue, and the plotlines were powerful enough to leave a lasting imprint into my mind.

I watched the movie at 2:30am and after watching the movie, i pretty much laid in bed and thought and reflected on my own situation and what i've been through in life.  it really brought a lot of things to light and maybe i am overlooking or over reacting to just a movie, but for me, movies are a form of art.  just as people read literature, listen to classial music, or stand in front of a painting trying to dissect what the artist was trying  convey, i feel the same way with movies.  I marvel at the direction, the performances, and the underlying messages that express themselves in a well put together movie and Silver Linings Playbook is definitely ranking up there as one of my favorite movies of all time.

It serves as a reminder that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.  that going back to normal is a possibility.  and with every bad thing that happens in life there is a silver lining that you can take away from it.  lessons learned, realizations of the people you choose to keep in your life, and just overall a comeback story that perhaps maybe hits a little close to home for me.

i will reflect a bit more on this as time goes on, and try not to neglect my blog as much.  i want to use this blog more to reflect on the movies i've watched, the music i listen to, or even the pictures i take in my life.  here's to the trek back to normalcy =)
