Django Unchained

First off i would like to say that I am not much of a Jaime Fox fan... i was at first when I saw him in Any Given Sunday but i started to dislike him in his role in Dreamgirls. Maybe it's that cocky over-the top acting sometimes but it worked in Any Given Sunday (Steamin Willie Beamin) but it has just carried over to many other of his roles that i am beginning to dislike it. However, his role and his performance in Django was pretty damn good and i for one, enjoyed the heck out of it. I am a huge Tarantino fan, and even bigger Leonardo DiCaprio fan. I feel like Leo does not get the credit he deserves for what an amazing job he's done over the years with his acting. Maybe he's still trying to fight off the "highest grossing movie of all time" Titanic stigma that has followed him throughout his career but I feel like he's been delivering oscar worthy performances ever since Catch Me If You Can. There's Blood Diamond, Departed, Inception.... wasn't a huge fan of Aviator even though he did a good job there, maybe the whole "going crazy" thing didn't sit too well with me. But in this movie he delivers another spot-on performance and was a great character and performance by him. Christoph Waltz wow'd me during Inglorious Basterds and in Django i can see why he rightfully deserved the Oscar for best supporting actor. My hats off to him and Samuel L. Jackson is exactly who he is, just a badass.
This movie was an absolute treat for me to watch and I'm glad i was able to watch this movie in it's entirety without the influence of substances for once. Giving it it's rightful due and being able to enjoy the direction, the performances, the plot, and dialogue. The raid scene may have been the funniest scene i've watched in a looooooooong ass time and stands as one of the most memorables scenes i'll remember in any Tarantino film. a MUST watch to anyone out there!
Flight

Denzel Washington is a great actor and always delivers powerful performances. But i feel sometimes in his movies it's pretty much 90% all Denzel ALL THE TIME in ever screen shot. I understand that he's the main character in all his movies but damn man.... at least give me SOME character development in the other characters in a movie? Has anyone ever noticed this? He Got Game, Man on Fire, De Ja Vu, Book of Eli, John Q, you name it. Perhaps one of my favorite movies with him in it is probably Unstoppable. Why? Because they took some GREAT screen time to develop Chris Pine's and Rosario Dawson's characters. Anyways, so back to the movie. This movie was very dark. Very somber. Pretty much that movie poster describes the total tone of the movie (interesting how that works out huh?) One Guy, rainy, dreary, gloomy day. Looking off to the side indicating he doesn't play by the rules and that's pretty much your movie right there. The movie although with a great premise of a pilot saving the lives of a hundred people by landing a plane that nobody else could have done was a great lead-in but i felt like everything else just dragged on for way too long. I felt frustrated in the movie and although i was engaged, I felt sad for humanity and the constant struggles and problems that some individuals face throughout the day. And like all Denzel movies, in the end he "wins" and "loses" at the same time. don't believe me? Watch He Got Game, or Man on Fire, or Book of Eli, or John Q.... tell me how they all end and i'll show you the blueprint of a Denzel movie. Powerful yes, wonderfully acted yes, light hearted and you feel good and satisfied in the end? ABSOLUTELY NOT... watch the movie if you're a fan.... or if you're a fan of the airline industry.... otherwise, you're not missing much if you let this movie pass
Reservoir Dogs

I watched this movie again cuz it's been a long time since i've seen it and after being disappointed by Flight decided to watch another Tarantino film. Great acting all around, don't really need to say much more about it since it's an old movie but a true classic I believe. Plus the great thing about it is, it's only a 1.5 hour movie so you don't commit too much of your time / day to it but because it's a Tarantino film, you need to pay attention with the dialogue... definitely can't just turn it on and surf the web or something without failing to enjoy the movie
Dredd

Thinking that this movie was a remake of the first Judge Dredd i didn't have much high expectations walking into this movie. To my surprise it had absolutely NOTHING to do with the first movie at all which was a GREAT thing actually. It kept the premise, the technology, and the state of the world in tact but kept the mystery of who is Judge Dredd throughout the whole movie. Little character development, a lot of action, and a great villain. Olivia Thirlby as Dredd's partner was a treat for the eyes, to say the least.... hardly believable that someone like her could be a Judge in the apocalyptic future in Mega City One, but fine... whatever, that's hollywood at work right there. Short, action packed, and good entertaining movie all around.
Seven Psychopaths

Seven Pyschopaths but pretty much only 3 good characters. This movie, not knowing ANYTHING about it walking into it was a pretty good movie all the way through. I enjoyed it and I enjoyed the acting performances. I however am not a Colin Farrell fan and even though this was a good movie, still does not make me a Colin Farrell fan. This movie was all about the great acting done by Christopher Walken, Woody Harrelson and my favorite Sam Rockwell (i've liked him ever since Ironman 2). The movie is smart/funny, can be a bit creepy and scary at times, and a surprise all the way through that you couldn't really predict what would happen. A smart movie and a great entertaining one but throughout the whole movie i never really felt much for Colin's character. I enjoyed it more when the other characters were acting. Oh and Olga's role in the movie? Typical bond-girl.... i don't even know why they label her as a psychopath in the poster but whatever.... gotta sell tickets right? Great movie to watch and a good recommendation.
and that's it for my movies that I watched over the weekend... too little? too much? too little time on my hands? fill it up too much with movies? well guess what... i love to watch movies.... how many times can you say you get to fill up your free time doing something you love to do.... lol...
