Calvin & Hobbes: Preciousness

Released on: Sunday, Aug 21st 1994.

This is a very interesting Calvin and Hobbes clip. It was just be sheer chance that I stumbled across this, especially with everything that's been going on lately. I find it so amazing how Bill Watterson touches some pretty serious subjects in such a comical way. I find clips like this very artistic, down to the second to last panel where Calvin is watching a falling leaf.

Is the fact that things in life that are temporary and fleeting is what makes them so precious? As a kid, that's what my summer vacations meant to me. And as an adult, that's what weekend's are pretty much like. The fact that they are so short is what makes them so precious and enjoyable. If a weekend lasted forever, u'd eventually take it for granted right? Even in summer vacation (3 months is a lot of nothing) and there were days i'd sit around and do absolutely nothing, hence taking it for granted.

I will agree that it is a futilistic point that Calvin puts up, nothing lasts forever, so why bother? Well, we bother because for the few moments that it does last, u feel happiness. It's what keeps you waking up every morning to take on this thing we call life. Sure it's a bitch (more often than not it is); but that's what makes it so exciting.

I guess that's why i look at everything in my past and cherish the good times but as well as learn from the bad times. I don't choose to forget things, because in doing so, you're just setting yourself up to let it happen again. Learn from past mistakes and carry it on to future endeavors; maybe then that one good thing you've been searching for might actually last forever.
