Title Cringe

you know what makes me cringe at times when i watch movies either at the theaters or at home?  movies that say their titles in the movie....  for example:



now... this doesn't work for all movies mind you... i've thought about this for a while and there are movies where the title gets a pass if mentioned within the movie.  Usuaully one word titles like for example:

Inception
Matrix
Gladiator
Tron
Batman
etc.

or if they are names or nicknames for the main character in the movie, event, or place:

Hunger Games
Skyfall
Forrest Gump
Dark Knight
etc.

Usually the types of movies that make me cringe like:



Are movie titles that are complete phrases.  I usually commend a movie if they can go an entire movie without saying their own title and always cringe during the movie if they in fact say their own title.  It usually doesn't ruin the movie for me, but it's almost like hearing nails on a chalkboard for me.

Can you imagine what the movie would sound like if somewhere in these movies their titles were said?

"....and this is the story of how.... Batman.... Begins......."  ::cue music::
"...we are in fact... the Raiders of the Lost Ark...."  ::cue music::
"... so young Skywalker... you are trying to become the Return of the Jedi...."  ::cue gunshot to myself::
"...so that is How to Train Your Dragon..." ::ugh::

Now notice how Dark Knight gets a pass because that is how Batman is referred to at times... a nickname for Batman... but Batman Begins or Dark Knight Rises would be a big no-no if mentioned somewhere within their movies.

Sadly some of my favorite movies are guilty of my one rule; but remember, it doesn't exactly ruin the movie for me... it just makes me cringe a little:

"...This saturday Marty... we are sending you.... BACK TO THE FUTURE!!!!!!"  ::look at the camera and pause for dramatic effect::


"....nooo!!!  i.... i just sent you BACK TO THE FUTURE!!!   I know doc... i know.... but i'm back..... i'm back FROM the future..... GREAT.... SCOTT!!!!"


I'm trying to think of the movies that have done it the worst.... i'll have to go home and check my movie collection and get back to you... but it happens a lot and can be a minor pet peeve of mine when watching movies

Face-Off
"Tiny surgery... i'd like to take his face...... off...."
"you wanna take his face...."
"yes..... his FACE....... OFFFFFFF!!!!!!!!!"
"the face...... offf?!?!?!?!"

ARRRRRGH!!!!!!!!!!
